Jeong Mee-Seon

Kim Dong-Won
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between parental attitude, ego-resilience and empathy ability, as perceived by children, and to examine whether ego-resilience plays a mediating role between perceived parental consent and empathy ability. In this study, questionnaires on empathy ability, ego-resilience, and parenting attitude were completed by 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students in Gwangju. Primary findings are as follows: First, acceptance-rejection has a positive correlation with ego-resilience and empathy ability. Perceived parenting attitudes, autonomy-control and overreliance had a negative correlation with ego-resilience and empathy ability. Second, ego-resilience mediated the effect of acceptance-rejection rearing attitude on empathy ability. Implications, limitations and suggestions for future research are discussed.
